From Rough Crystal to Finished Diamond.
Follow the journey of a diamond from its natural origin to a polished stone ready for the trade.
Stage 1
Stage 1
The alluvial diamond mining photos pictured above are those of Yoav’s brother Chaim in West Africa. Chaim, in partnership with 2 of the local people of this region, is overseeing mining activities along the river bed. Rough mined here is frequently misshapen due to thousands of years of tumbling from the original pipe. The tumbling process, however, generally yields cleaner, less fractured (cleaved) rough.
Stage 2
Stage 2
All polished diamonds originate from a rough crystal.
The photo on the left features rough weighing from 8–10ct each. The primary yield from these will be a 3–4ct polished diamond. For relative size, the princess cut weighs 1.00 ct.
The photo on the right features a mélange of 2–3 ct rough diamonds, both natural and lab-grown diamonds.
The primary yield will be 1ct+ in the polished.
